Long Synopsis:

Mike is quiet and reserved when he returns to his rural hometown in South Texas. His homecoming was not a planned visit, but rather, a sudden departure from the city after news of his father’s unexpected death. It’s been three years since he fled to the city after his mother’s tragic passing. Now, Mike is inevitably forced to confront what he ran away from three years ago, a secret he has carried with him since his departure.

Manuel and Helen, Mike’s mother’s parents, warmly welcome their grandson back into their lives. They do their best to help Mike cope with his loss. As the days pass, Mike attempts to heal; he repairs his grandfather’s tractor, helps a friend of his father’s fix an old water trough, and even gets his father’s old pickup running again. Yet this outward process of repair is deceiving as we begin to catch glimpses of Mike’s character, something he shields from his very own family and friends. Inside, Mike still harbors a painful secret.

Returning to the barren countryside of his youth, memories begin to resurface along with more questions. Mike embarks upon a journey for answers, and grows curious of the life his father led up until his recent passing. Fueling Mike’s curiosity is a strange dog lurking around his grandparents’ house. He discovers it bares a striking resemblance to a dog his mother owned when Mike was only a child. The mysterious appearances of this dog lead Mike to discover more clues surrounding the days leading up to his father’s death. Pushed to his limit emotionally and mentally, Mike begins to uncover the truth, a truth that threatens to tear at the bond of his family, the only thing he has left.

Whether buried in the dry South Texas dirt or the desolate depths of ourselves, our secrets have a way of resurfacing. Dig uncovers the weight of these secrets, and the journey we all must take toward self-discovery, and ultimately…forgiveness.

Dig tells the story of a family of mixed culture brought together by tragedy. This story reminds us of the bond of family and how it can never be broken, not even in death.
